PostSubject: Motherboard broken?   2011-01-27, 8:53 pm

One day when i turned on my computer it just got stuck at the opening screen which just shows the logo and the model of my motherboard. It usually goes to this screen but after 10 seconds or so it loads up windows. I would assume the motherboard is still getting power since the keyboard and mouse are still lighting up but i honestly dont know much about hardware. If anyone could help with this it would be much appreciated.

If your motherboard was 'broken', you'd be getting blue screens and windows restarts during operation, not necessarily during startup. Also, there's a good chance your PC wouldn't run at all, since the BIOS chip is on your mobo.

If your PC works fine once it's up and running, then it's probably your power supply either on the fritz and/or lacking sufficient power for your configuration. The latter is the case for me, as I am running a 450w with a decent video card and 4 hard drives. Sometimes my power supply doesn't give power to my Windows hard drive on boot and it hangs on the BIOS. A quick push of the reset button usually fixes that. Do restarts remedy your problem? After that, Windows works completely fine for me, so whatever. This only happens about once a month or so.

if it stops on the first screen it is typically doing a processor and memory test, those would be good things to check out. doubt your mobo is broken. If you are getting to windows and crashing then likely fritzy or underpowered psu

My laptop I think had same problem a couple months ago. Came up then instead of doing memory tests screen stayed black, tried buying new RAM but didn't help so I just ditched laptop since it wasn't that good and didn't get another but mom got me another one for Christmas so i can't help since I never fixed.

Well the screen I get stuck on is a screen that always shows up when I start up my PC. Its just a screen that says Asus (brand of motherboard) and M2A-VM(model #). The bottom of the screen does have some text that says "press DEL to enter SETUP, Press TAB to display BIOS post message". However pushing either of these keys doesnt seem to do anything it just stays on the screen. Restarting doesnt help it just gives me the same screen. Im not getting any blue screens and I havent found amy way to get past this opening screen it just seems to freeze on it.
