LOL @ all of your toolbars. It's no wonder you always have so many bandwidth and game performance issues.

I don't know where they all came from. I used to only have the Google toolbar and then I got that Bing crap on there somehow and couldn't figure out how to take it off without updating Firefox (which I don't want to do).

Showed this thread to my friend. Though she is not particularly a fan of Nyan Cat, she found the pictures that were posted of the ginormous (holy shit that word is in the firefox dictionary?) Nyan Cat highly amusing.

You should ALWAYS keep your browser, your Adobe Flash, and your Java Runtime Environment up to date, as these are the 3 main entryways for viruses via normal usage.

Why don't you want to update Firefox specifically? The latest version - Firefox v8.01 - is the best version by far (speaking as someone with a keen eye for usability as well as a PC shitty enough to tell right off when something heads south). Is there an older extension that you are clinging to that isn't compatible with a newer FF version or something? There are workarounds for that, you know. Most extensions still work in most versions of Firefox. It's just a flag that every extension has set for maxversion or something. You can manually edit the flag (there are instructions on the net) as well as use Mozilla's own extension Add-On Compatibility Reporter, which is designed to test older extensions in newer FF versions.

Firefox is getting a Chrome-like silent auto-updater by the time Firefox v12 is released (late April, 2012) so get used to having the most up-to-date. I think that is when they plan to disable extension version checks too, as they are really unnecessary at this point.

Most toolbars have their own installer separate from Firefox itself. Uninstall those toolbars from Control Panel. Simply updating Firefox will most likely bring the toolbar(s) along with it. I'd look to uninstall all of those toolbars. You don't need Google Toolbar for anything. Google Search is built into that little search bar on the right of the main Firefox address bar, and by default I think some other search engines as well. Firefox - and most modern browsers - already block popups (this was Google Toolbar's main calling back in the day) so that isn't a good enough reason to keep it either.

If you want to add any other site's search to that far-right Firefox search bar, install the Firefox Add To Search Bar extension. Besides adding them to the drop-down list, you can also set keywords for the searches and use them in the main address bar when you want. It really comes in handy. I have all kinds of search engines added to my Firefox, including both main GW wikis, YouTube, IMDB.com, etc.. To use the official GW wiki I just use the main FF address bar and type my keyword 'ogw1w' then my search term to automatically search for it. For example, "ogw1w Shiro".
