Start your downloads, it's a whopping 13.3gb for the weekend beta.

An email was sent out titled "You’re Invited to the Guild Wars 2 Beta Event April 27-29" with the link to the beta forums and client.

The Guild Wars 2 Beta Client:

If all else fails:

If they didnt disallow guesting on beta they wouldnt need to limit server changes and also why cant they just do it the same as GW1 with districts so you avoid this bullshit. I want to play with US friends like y'all but I dont want fuckoff massive ping..

ArenaNet is already warning about the (lack of) optimization done to the game as of now, so be prepared:

Quote :
Hardware Compatibility

Display: the graphics-settings slider has only a minor impact on performance at this time.

We are currently optimizing Guild Wars 2, making ongoing improvements to the game’s frame rate. Presently, the game is CPU-bound on most high-end systems, so lowering graphics settings or upgrading your video card may not have a large impact on performance.

Yeah, and we also need to decide on a spot to hang out on voice chat this weekend as well. Mio has his friend's vent, the GSC server is still up, etc.. If people are going to be around during prime hours then let's hang out. I can't participate in the BWE until I get my new PC built (and especially now knowing that the beta version is CPU-bound), but I'll be around if others are around playing. I'll probably just farm some of the 7th B'day drops in GW1 or something.

So, how much is a TS3 server anyway?

Since I currently pay for unlimited bandwidth/storage web space at Bluehost.com for my design portfolio, they allow the use of Teamspeak or Ventrilo server. Provided you buy a dedicated IP. Dedicated IP will cost $2.50 monthly. With a non-profit TS3 license, which is free, I could run 10 virtual servers and 512 slots. This is a way better deal. I would run it if people were gonna use it all the time.

It would be cheaper for this than simply renting a third-party server. Reave, if you have a Paypal account I can help pay for this. Easy to send money that way. (If you don't have a Paypal account, you should definitely get one and get it verified. Comes in handy.) $2.50 x 12 is... $30 a year? Not bad at all.

Not worth setting up right now though. Maybe in a few weeks/months or so if we decide to form our own guild in GW2 - which, besides just missing hanging out and shooting the shit with you guys, is another reason I'd like to get together and talk with all of you - if not this weekend for the BWE then soon. I think it's time to come to a decision on the GW2 guild issue so we can start making preparations if there is enough interest amongst you all in formally going that route. Other sites/groups have begun making plans for their own endeavors and I think it's time to at least put a foundation in place (ie. start trying to come up with a name, etc.).

Lol yeah I was just happy I got to the login screen. I'm still not sure whether GW2 will run on my laptop because I don't meet the graphics reqs. I don't know how CPU bound "cpu bound" means but I know most games won't even let you start them if you don't meet the system reqs.

I my laptop doesn't meet the video card/graphics req either. but exceeds everything else... my hope is that running the login screen also means being able to run the game.
